Me
at the summit of Sleeping Beauty Peak, Gifford Pinchot National Forest.
Welcome to Cascade Mountain Photography! My name is Curtis Knight. I've lived most of my life along the Columbia River. My father and brother took me on many fishing, boating, hiking, and camping trips along the Lewis River, south of Mt. St. Helens. I spent much of my youth in the Columbia River Gorge. I grew up running around in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, my favorite playground to this day. The Gifford Pinchot has many hidden treasures for the avid nature photographer.
During the day I am a Software Quality Assurance Engineer, Test Automation Development, at McAfee, Inc. My weekends and vacations are spent with Canon D300. Nearly all my work is currently digital. When I shoot film, it’s usually Kodak E100VS.
When I retire from my day job, the last thing I want to do is sit on the front porch in a rocking chair. By then I hope to have the skills and image library sufficient to supplement my retirement income, and keep me entertained, and healthy.
My favorite subjects are water, sunsets, and sunrises. I dabble with close-ups and macros, and I've managed to get a fair wildlife shot or two. Unfortunately, as the family joke goes, when I'm on my way, the wildlife gets wind of it and they're on their way as well! Too much bad karma from my youth maybe? The reality is, I simply don’t have the patience necessary for high-quality wildlife photography.
My gorgeous and ever-patient wife, Marie, is my main source of encouragement. She enjoys my images as much as I enjoy creating them. If it weren't for her support and encouragement, I would not be able to continually improve my skill, and enjoy photography as much as I do. When we go hiking, she endures long stops while I set up and take pictures.
